SOLDIER DECORATED
1 The War Office announced that the King has approved the award of the 1 Medal of the Order of the British Em--1 pire (Military Division) to No. 6009084 . Private Joseph Edward Mott, Ist Battaj lion the Essex Kegiment, for gallantry i during the operations in Palestine. The ' action for which Private Mott receives this decoration was performed by him • on the evening of Christmas Day last, i when a bomb was thrown into the Jordania Cafe in Haifa. The cafe was - crowded with soldiers and civilians at • the time the bomb fell at the feet of 1 Private Mott, who was seated at a table - with some other men of the battalion. With the utmost coolness and presence r of mind Private Mott picked it up and • hurled it through a window into the 3 street, where it- exploded with great ! violence. His highly courageous act undoubtedly saved several lives, and injuries to many of his companions.
