WEIGHT-LIFTING CONTEST
The lifting was of a high order at the monthly weight r lifting contest at Wellington this week. A. Angrove, New Zealand lightweight champion, ~ was outstanding, and his total of 5251b is equal to the total on which he won his New- Zealand title last October. E. Phillip's total of 5801b represented the biggest total ever lifted in a Wellington competition.
■■■ In the light-heavyweight class R. Munro totalled 4601b to beat T. Watt, who lifted 4001b. In the middleweight division, H. Sharpies came out the winner with a total of -4451b, an improvement of 451b on his previous total. In <the featherweight class, D. Crossly distinguished ! i himself by totalling 4151b, which- is 401b more than he lifted to win last year's Wellington championship. Mr. K. J. Webb, who was the New Zealand Weight-lifting Association' official referee, commented on the excellent f.orm pf the; lifters as a whole.
