SUCCESSIVE RAGES

SUPERIOR GUARD'S FEAT

(By Telegraph.) (Special from ''Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, April 27.

It is not often that horses are produced in two races on end on a metropolitan track, but that was the programme adopted with Superior Guard an older full-brother to Alunga. at Avondale today. This horse won the Dominion Hack Handicap in effortless fashion, this being his first' success; and then, without being unj saddled, he paraded for the next event, the Waitakere Hack Handicap, in' which, with a 51b penalty, he finished in great style very wide out to get up for a dead heat with Dragon Moth. .' ' ■ , i. i This feat is a most unusual one, but it has been accomplished • twice in recent years. At Tauranga almost two years ago Little; Ruse won the opening maiden race and came out again m the hack sprint, the next event, and again won.., Another ■ instance, and a more striking' one, was recorded at Hawera in February, 1932, when Awaken, who had won the open sprint on the first day, succeeded again on the second day, and then in the fol- ; lowing race, an- open. seven furlongs, came out to record her third win at the meeting. ,«■■,,, «<'«,' Awaken was owned ty Mr. A. Alex : I ander, .of New Plymouth, whose death I was announced last week.- It is a coincidence that Superior Guard is also owned and trained by a sportsman of the same name in Mr. W. Alexander, of Te Awamutu.
