WATER FOR A FARM

SPRING-FED RESERVOIR

(Special, to the "Evening Post.")

WANGANUI, April 18.

The problem of an ample water supply for stock has been effectively solved by a Wanganui River settler, Mr. R. O. Montgomerie, who, in his spare time hollowed a large cave out of papa rock, and timbered the roof. When the work was finished the entrance was sealed with reinforced concrete, let in about 20 inches on each side of the opening. The narrow entrance was carried in for four feet before the interior was widened to the full size of a reservoir which will hold many tens of thousands of gallons- of water. The reservoir is fed from a spring at a higher level. The water is drawn off by a ijin pipe, and serves six paddocks.
