UNDENIABLE FACT
HEAVY JAPANESE DEFEAT
The following cablegram was received by the Chinese Consul from Hankow this morning:—
According to a telephone message received this morning from the front, we are pursuing the enemy in a general retreat along the Linchen-Taierch« wang branch of the Tsinpu railway. Originally the enemy had 20,000 troops near Taierchwang, half of which were killed by us during the last two weeks. Apart from a small number who escaped last night, there, are still several thousand surrounded by us who are subject to annihilation at any moment.
The enemy's heavy defeat in their attack on the Tsinpu railway from the north is an undeniable fact. At tha same time, our mobile units are very active in the rear of the enemy, and they have recaptured Yuchen, in the north of Shantung, and Peimashan railway station, six kilometres north of Tsinan, the capital of Shantung Province.
