AMERICAN NAVY

START THIS YEAR
(Received April 9, 1.15 p.m.)
WASHINGTON, April 8.
Vice-Admiral Leahy stated that the construction of the two new battleships provided for in the new Navy Supply Bill will be started before the end of this year, and probably will be slightly in excess of 35,000* tons each, owing to the invocation of the escalator clause.
He added that two new cruisers would also be started at the same time.
