REV. JAMES RICHARDS

'■* ~•~ TRANSFER TO PAPANUI

The Rev. James Richards, who. has been, superintendent minister' of the Thorndon Methodist Circuit for the past three years and who is transferring to Papanui, Christchurch, was tendered a farewell social in the Molesworth Street .Schoolroom on Tuesday evening.

There was a> large attendance, representatives from all parts of the circuit being present, as well as friends from other parts of the city. Mr. T. H. Crosbie presided, and brief speeches were made by the Rev. A. M. Costain, Mr. C. H. Ham, circuit steward, Mr. N..S. Slyfield, on behalf of the North-, land congregation, Mr. R. E. Flaws, on behalf of Kaiwarra, and Mr. W. A. Heath, for the Molesworth Street congregation. .All expressed appreciation of the work accomplished by Mr. Richards during his term in the circuit, i special mention being made of the extensive renovations that had been carried out at the Molesworth , Street Church. The best wishes of all were extended to Mr. and Mrs. Richards arid their family in their new sphere; Mr. Heath, on behalf of the circuit, presented Mr. Richards with a qheque. Mr.i Richards, in reply, thanked the officers and members for the loyalty they had shown to him during his stay in Thorndon. -

Opportunity -was also taken^ to say farewell to Mr. Wallis Browne, secretary and treasurer of the.?toolesworth Street Church Trust, who is leaving the district. Mr. F. W. Goatham paid a tribute to the thoroughness and devotion with which Mr. Browne had carried out his duties, and, oh behalf of the Church, presented him with a chiming clock. Mr. Browne suitably replied. Mrs. Richards x and Mrs. Browne were presented with1 bouquets by Master Ross Ewart.

A programme of vocal and elocutionary items was given by Misses "Worboys, Tunley, and Freeman, ahd the Rev. A. M. Costain. Supper was served by the ladies'guild. 7

Mr. Richards will be succeeded by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell, of Hastings. .
