SOCIAL PROGRESS MEETING
The clubrooms of the English-speak-ing Union lend themselves particularly well to floral decorations, but yesterday afternoon, when a meetingl Of the Wellington Central Group of theWomen's Social Progress Movement was held, they looked more than usually attractive. Bowls of hydrangeas, some in shades of blue and others ranging from deep red to pink, mauve, and autumn colours, speckled French marigolds and vases of outsize golden dahlias blended with the furnishings with pleasing effect. The chairwoman's table was centred by cosmos, pom-pom dahlias, and antirrhinums, arranged in a deep, coloured bowl.
Mrs. James Bennie, who was in the chair, commented on the large attendance of members and welcomed visitors from'other branches. Speaking of the disquieting unrest in the world today and of the antipathy of women towards war, she suggested that resort should be made to prayer, and that a
