ABOUT SOUTHERN BLOOD
Mrs.' P. M.? Flan, who has been racing Southern Blood on lease ior the, past few seasons, has decided to exercise an option of purchase she holds over the gelding. Southern Blood is evidently a horse who needs, "waking up" occasionally, or, at least, that is what his lady ownertrainer is beginning to suspect about him. Just before he left Trentham to, race on the final day at Manawatu recently he was very scratchy and| simulating lameness. He was taken up; on the afternoon of the first day, and| then when being unloaded at 10 p.m.. in the dark he fell on the hardi bitumen. It did not hurt him. In the1 race the next day he hit out more freely than ever he had done before, and since his return to Trentham he has shown no sign o£ soreness or scratchiness. _~__.._ Incidentally Mrs. Flan found it hard to locate a rider for Southern Blood at Awapuni, 'as most of the hurdle horsemen available were otherwise engaged or did not care for the mount. Not so "Tiger" Rohloff, who is always willing to accept any chance and who deserved this turn of luck.
