WELLINGTON CONTROL
At a meeting of the Wellington Rugby League Board of Control held this week the Petone Club was granted permission to hold a field day at North Park on April 23, The Petone Club intends inviting St. George to participate in the day's events. A letter was received from the Randwick School committee granting . the Hugby League the use of the Randwick School ground for the coming season. In response to a circular previously sent to the clubs urging the use of a standard Rugby League football the secretary, Mr. E. J. Elliott, reported that he had received requests from clubs for the purchase of ten such footballs. Arrangements had been made with the Auckland Rugby League for the purchase of their official football. The New Zealand Rugby League advised the board that the Wellington Rugby League had been granted affiliation with the New Zealand Rugby Football League and that the Wellington delegate would be invited to occupy a seat on the council immediately. Members expressed pleasure that Wellington was now going to have a voice in the national control of the game particularly this season when a New Zealand team would tour Australia. Mr. J. A. Watson, of Auckland, was unanimously elected to represent Wellington on the New Zealand Council.
The New Zealand Rugby League requested the Wellington Rugby League to forward three nominations for xhe positions of North Island selectors. It was decided to nominate Mr. H. Brisbane, sole selector for the Auckland Rugby League, and Mr. A. T. McClymont, present North Island and New Zealand selector. The board decided to leave the appointing of a third selector in the hands of the New Zealand Council.
In connection with the New Zealand team's tour of Australia the Petone Club asked the board to. recommend Mr. R. Duncan to the New Zealand Rugby League for the position of masseur. The chairman, Mr. W. T. Holland, stated that it was not likely that a masseur would be taken from New Zealand but one would be engaged on the team's arrival in Australia. The letter, however, is to be forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby League. Mr. W. Simpson intimated his intention of taking an active part in referees' affairs in Wellington this season. Mr. Simpson, who was secretary of the Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association for some years and one of the game's leading first-grade referees, recently accepted a position in Wellington.
