"GIFT AFTERNOON"
(From "The Post's" Representative.)
Nearly fifty guests were present at Mrs. I. Newton's St. John's Hill home on Saturday afternoon, when Mesdames Newton and Merrington were hostesses in honour of Miss Hume, of the Wanganui Technical College staff, whose marriage with Mr. R. N. Wilson •will take place shortly. Two amusing competitions were won by Mr. Abernethy and Miss Graham,-and musical items were given by Mrs. Woolcott, Mrs. G. Saunders, Mrs. .D. Abernethy, Miss Newton, and Miss Hume.
Popular Railway Official.
A public farewell to a popular railway official, Mr. A. Jamieson,.and his family was held at Ohingaiti. Mr. Jamieson's unselfish and obliging acts had earned him the respect of the whole district, stated Mr. Ramsay, in handing an envelope of notes to the guest of the evening. Dancing, filled a very pleasant evening. The family will leave shortly for Wellington.
Surprise Party.
St. Paul's Badminton and Tennis Club members arranged a surprise party recently in honour of Miss Myrtle Simpson and Mr. Dick Tizard. The presentation was made of a teaset, for both have been loyal supporters of the club. Mr. Jack O'Brien and Miss M. Peek made the presentation. Farewell Parties.
. Two cheery parties, a tennis and a dance, have been held in Taihape recently in honour of Misses E. Carpenter and R. Garmondsway, nurses at the hospital,, who are both leaving. At Miss Carpenter's tennis party, many gifts were given in view of her approaching marriage.

1 Misses N. Hales, I. Brown, I. Cooke, and S. Wagstaff have returned from the Guiders' Camp at Lower Hutt.
. Mr. and Mrs. A. Wilsher,' Taihape, are visiting Auckland.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Powdrell, Whakatane, are visiting Mrs.; E. Derrett at Patea.
Miss Ruth Mitchell, who has been staying with Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Lomas and Miss Ethel Parsons, will return to Wellington thi* weekend.
Mrs. J*. Bridgman, ' Wellington, is Visiting her sister, Mrs. L. : Brinkman.
Miss Winifred Clarke is leaving by the Rangitata for London,, where she will be the bridesmaid for her .sister, Miss Lydia Clarke. She has been the guest of honour at many "bon-voyage" parties.
Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Wilson, Waitotara, have left for a holiday1 In? Australia.
Mrs. Basil Hewitt and Miss Dorothy .Hewitt, Bay of Islands, are visiting Masterton, after spending a short time at Wanganui.
Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Parsons are Waverley visitors to the polo tournament at Hawke's Bay.
,', Mr. and Mrs. J. McMillan, Wellington, are revisiting their former home town, and are the guests of Mrs. G. McDougal, St. John's Hill. ;•*,■
