FINE AND WARM if
Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate and variable winds, with northerlies predominating.
Weather fine and warm.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole,. issued at noon today for the ensuing 24 hours, is for light" to moderate and variable winds. Easterlies to- north-easterlies will predominate over the northern half of the North Island, and north-easterlies to riortherlies elsewhere. -The weather will be fair to fine generally, with mild to warm temperatures, morning fogs being probable in places. , Although pressure changes yesterday were extremely slight .and surface winds ■ very light, a. change in the upper levels of .the atmosphere caused a- complete change in the character of atmospheric pressure over New Zealand. Skies yesterday were overcast and the weather humid, showers pr drizzling rain falling in many places. But the direction of the movement of the upper air masses changed from west-north-west to" south-south-west. Although there was a change to northerlies over the country yesterday, surface winds were slightly more southerly in direction, but this morning there was again a tendency to northeasterlies. Very little rain was reported this morning and, although there was fog in a few places, the weather, was fine practically everywhere. Temperatures have, remained mild to warm.
Auckland had dull and warm weather yesterday, with a light northeasterly breeze. There was some fog early this morning, but otherwise the weather was clearer.
In Wellington it gradually became clearer during the afternoon, and temperatures were quite warm in spite of the light south-easterly breeze which prevailed. It was brilliantly fine this morning, and since 7 p.m. yesterday there "has been scarcely. a breeze. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 75.9 and 56.2 degrees respectively, and. 6.9 hours of bright sunshine were recorded.
