FIRE BRIGADE REUNION
There was a strong muster of fire brigadesmen at Silverstream.; last evening for the annual reunion of :tne local brigade. There were large contingents from Upper Hutt, Featherston, Greytown, Martinborough, Lower Hutt, Petone, and Eastbourne, and a number of individual guests, among whom were the Mayor of Upper Hutt, Mr. A. J. McCurdy, and Councillors G. H. Guthrie, J. Blewman, J. W. S. Baskett, and T. Clyma, Mr. B. Wilmshurst (Town (Clerk), Mr. F. Goodland, and the firemaster from Trentham camp (Mr. R. Beddow). Superintendent W. Mason presided, and a number of toasts were honoured. -■■-,•■ Replying to the toast of the 'Borough, Council," the Mayor said that the district had not applied for the full amount allowed for the brigade on'the estimates and the council had decided to spend the balance before the end of the year in building, a new sttelter.for the new engine and shifting the old building on to the new site: -'The new engine would arrive on April 4. ■ Mr. F. Goodland, a past unofficial member of the Silverstream Brigade,1 said he knew no other brigade" that had had such difficulties to overcome, and he heartily complimented the members on their wonderful progress. ■
The Mayor presented; • two-year £ei> vice bars to the following;— Superintendent W. Mason, Deputy Superintendent T. Harlen, Foreman B.'.[ F. Ljingdon (received by his father),'and. Fireman H. Sfuith. ; t Mr. McCurdy said he. regretted that Fireman C. Hannibal was two months short of the service which would';entitle him to his bar. \ ;
