AWATEA'S PASSENGERS

AUCKLAND, March 23,

When the Union Company's transTasman liner Awatea left Auckland for Sydney she carried a record number of passengers for the ship on the voyage out of port. A total of 498 travellers filled practically all the Awatea's accommodation, the list being one of the heaviest ever to have embarked on any ship at Auckland. On recent voyages the liner has frequently carried about 490 passengers from Auckland, her previous record of 496 being established recently.
