NINETIETH ANNIVERSARY,

DUNEDIN, March 23,

; The ninetieth anniversary of the Province of Otago was celebrated today in glorious weather. A gathering, of early settlers numbering well over 500 was held in they afternoon and a concert at night attracted a capacity audience.

Ninety years ago today the settlement of Otago was founded with the arrival at Port Chalmers o,f the ship John Wickliffe with the first colonists. Five hundred passengers arrived in the year 1848, and of these only three are now living, Mrs. J. L. Soutter, aged 93, now resident in Sydney; Mrs. M. Stewart, aged 91, Wellington; and Mrs. Fraser, Timaru, aged 90.
