A wedding in which wide, interest centred was celebrated at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North, yestcrduy evening, when Flora Jean, youngest daughter of' Mr':, and '..Mrs. T. A. Hastings, pioneer residents,. Palmerston North, was married, to the Rev. Howard C. Matthews, eldest son of Mr.' and 'Mrs\ F. C. .Matthews, Royal Oak, Auckland.
The Revi M.. A. McDoWell.was the officiating clergyman. Mr. A. Tregurtha played the' wedding music, and during the'signiiig of the register, "Miss. Lola Clark sang "My Prayer." / .
The bride's gown of off-wliite dullfinished satin was fashioned on slimfitting Empire lines, the full skirt falling to a train,which had inlet accordion pleating. The finishing touches were a, p.carl necklet,. and sprig of orange blossom at.the.neckline, and the bride carried a. shower bouquet' of cream dahlias, roses, and, maidenhair fern with satin streamers. Worn over the face before the: ceremony her filmy embroidered tulle veil was held to her head with, a garland of flowers, and fell to form,a.second train
The .bridesmaids, were., Miss. Betty Baillie',.o,f Palmerstoh North, and Miss. Win. Matthews, ,0f Auckland, sister of the bridegroom. They .were similarlyattired in picture frocks of. cornflower blue cloque. made with boat-shaped necklines ■ and puffed * sleeves., Posies of flowers" at the neckline matched the golden-tinted leaves in their'hair and their bouquets of gladioli, dahlias, and roses. Margaret Whltehead, cousin of the bride,,was a;. dainty little flowergirl wearing a long frock ..of white spotted net 6vex: satin. "A .blue s^sh encircled- her waist andvshe;.wore va bandeau .of blue 'flowers and "carried a doll similarly ■dressed. ■Robert Whitehead, of the'bride,,, was the. youthful page wearing a suit of off\vh{t^: satin! and he carried; a ' blue
The Rev. W. Mills, of Greeriin^adows, was':b|st man, arid Rev.. L; Norwell, of Puturua/groomsman.,The ushers were Messrs.; Reg. Matthews, of Auckland, andßarry-Hastings, Palmerston North.
The reception following was held at the Rosco tearooms,- where 150 guests were entertained by ■ the bride's parents, who were assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Matthews. Mrs. Hastings was wearing a black crepe de chine ensemble relieved with. white, and she carried a posy of autumn-tinted pompom dahlias.. The tearooms werC'attractively decorated, and on ;the-bridal table was the flower-<bedecked thireetiere*dcake surmounted with the appropriate emblem■ of a:church spire.-..
A sheaf of telegrams from all over New Zealand and ■cables;frqm Australia were;read bii'tJby, the best-man, testifying to the high esteem in which-the young couple are held. . =
The bride travelled in a navy tailored costume with white blouse, :a navy peach bloom hat and navy accessories.
The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Matthews will in future reside at, Ruawai, North Auckland. ,
