Another link with the early days is broken with the passing of Mrs. Agnes Benson . Born, in Glasgow, she arrived at Wellington';iwith her .first husband, Mr. Walter Robertson, and their three young children, by the ship Gairlough in 188 L They settled at Pahautenui, but fifteen months after their arrival, Mr. Robertson was accidentally, killed in the Ngahauranga Gorge;

The widow removed to Johnsonville, where for 10 years ' she occupied a I small farm, running it with the assistance of her young family. She then married Mr. William Benson, a wellknown early settler who had ai rived by the ship Gertrude in 1841, and who was farming at Takapu, Tawa Flat, at this time. -Mr. Benson, however,' died as a result of an accident eight years later, and shortly afterwards Mis. Benson moved to Porirua. Here she conducted for 28 years a general store, becorriing widely known around the district. For a few years she also ran the Titahi Bay store. Difring the past six years Mrs. Benson ' had not enjoyed the best of health, and she-was-just on 84 years old at the time of her death. •' Her' family are Mr. Thonias Robertson (Bainesse, Palmerston North), Mrs. Thomas Hook (Maharahara and late, of Tawa Flat), and Mrs. Ernest Windley (Porirua). ' There are 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.'
