ROYAL AIR FORCE
EFFICIENCY OF MACHINES
(From "The Post's"- Representative.) LONDON, March 5.
The possibility that the new fighter, the Spitfire, which is soon to be supplied in quantities to the Royal Air Force might, if the elements wer« kind, make the journey from Edinburgh to London at a speed of perhaps 500 miles an hour was mentioned by Air Chief Marshal Sir Cyril NewalL Chief of the Air Staff, at the annual dinner of the Cambridge University Air Squadron last night.
The new aircraft, which were now coming from the factories with growing momentum, were capable of performances which could compare with any aircraft in the world, and the standard of workmanship was fully up to that which was expected of British industry, he said. The Royal Air Force had at present bombers and fighters of as high performance as any air force in the world, and they had others coming along with increased performance. They were forging an extremey powerful weapon which God forbid it would ever be necessary to use.
