RESCUED FROM WELL
MISSING OAMARU MAN
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, March 22.
A remarkable occurrence is reported from Oamaru, where a man who had been reported missing was discovered at the bottom of a disused well on a farm this afternoon and rescued by Constable McNamara in circumstances calling for the exercise of considerable resource. It appears that last night there was some, discord between the man and his brothers, and when he was found to be missing this morning the Oamaru police were notified. While they were engaged in a seaVch a man. employed on the, farm threw into the well the carcass of an old sheep he had killed, and heard moans.
■ Equipping himself with a gas mask, Constable McNamara descended, the well at his thi;\l attempt; and though he is stated to have encountered some resistance he succeeded in rescuing the man, who was later removed to the Oamaru Hospital.
