ESPERANTO CLUB

The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club took place last Monday evening in the club's rooms, 10-14 Victoria Street. In the absence of the president, Mr. J. Thomas presided. Members notified the secretary of correspondence received from Latvia, Japan, England, Denmark. Iceland, and Yugoslavia. Mr. W. L. Edmanson, J.P., F.8.E.A.. examiner on behalf of the British Esperanto Association, announced that the association had awarded the Diploma of Esperanto to Mr. C. Toomer, who had passed the requisite examination with distinction. He charged Mr. Toorner as a teacher to. guard the fundamental structure of Esperanto and to allow no deviation in the classes under his guidance from tho sixteen rules of grammar as laid down by the author of the language, Dr. L. L. Zamenbof. Mr. Toomer suitably replied, and the club sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mr. J. Thomas, president of the recreation branch of the club, thanked Mr. D. Kirk for having constructed a pingpong table for club members' use, and announced that Wednesday night had been set aside for this club adjunct. Tho evening was brought to a close with a community sing, conducted by Mr. W. Longhurst, who announced that a "nautical evening'" was to be held next Saturday evening at the home of Mr. P. McCrea.
