NEW HOSPITAL
SELECTION OF DESIGN
COMPETITIVE BASIS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHBISTCHURCH, This Day.
The selection of a design for the new hospital to serve as a subsidiary to the Christchurch Public Hospital will be made on a competitive basis. The architect whose design wins will have the supervision of the work, and there will be substantial prizes for. those whose submissions are judged second and third. This decision was made by the North Canterbury Hospital Board this morning. "We should not get into a rut," said the Hon. J. K. Archer, M.L.C., in making the proposal. "There must be new ideas in hospital design." It had been suggested to the board s architects, said Mr. L. B. Evans, that they should send a representative to Australia at least to study recent developments before plans were drawn up. Sir Hugh Acland said that a man who had studied hospital design abroad might be of the most help to the board in drawing the plans for the subsidiary hospital.
