NEW MEETING PLACE
TQWNSWOMEN'S GUILD
Mrs. James Pow, president of the Wellington Central branch of the Townswomon's Guild, presided over an enthuaiastic and well-attended meeting held on Tuesday, the membership being, increased by 15.
Mrs. D. Kerr, convener of the Exploring Circle, who had found it necessary to resign on account of illness, , was welcomed', back by the members and pleasure expressed at her recovery. Mrs. B. East was appointed convener for the year. Mrs. Young, a visiting member from the Lower Hutt branch, was also given a hearty welcome. The president announced that the first birthday party of the guild would be held this month, and it was hoped that practically all members would be able to participate in this function. A hearty vote of thanks was passed, to Mrs. Wray for her excellent work as treasurer of the guild since its inception, her resignation being accepted with regret. Mrs. Watson was elected treasurer for the' ensuing year. Mrs. Pow announced that a larger room would be necessary for future meetings arid that'' arrangements had been made for the use of the Rechabite Hall, Willis Street; ■/. The election of officers resulted in Mrs. James Pow being unanimously re-elected president arid Mrs. P. H. Kinsman secretary.- The committee elected included Mesdames Angus, Bradstock, Crowther, Smith, Lavette, Wray, Thompson, Fowles, Marshall, East, and Miss Craig. Mrs. Wray was elected programme convener. Miss Rita Luxford gave two clever character recitations, and pianoforte items were played by Mrs. Reg. fieed, pianist to. the Fay Compton Con>
pany. ' i Mrs. Knox Gilmer gave an exceptionally interesting and instructive talk on her, recent travels abroad, her description of the Coronation ceremony proving very entertaining, as also were her remarks on matters pertauiing to women of other, countries and their various activities in the business and political world. The hope was expressed by the members that Mrs. Knox Gilmer would continue her talks at some future date. A hearty, vote of thanks was accorded the speaker and the performers for contributing so largely to the success of the afternoon. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses, being Mesdames Bradstock, Thompson, East, and Prangley.
