NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at a Special Meeting of the Wellington City Council held on Monday, March 7, 1938, the following resolution was passed, viz.—The Wellington City Council hereby makes by. Special Order the following Bylaw under and by virtue of and in exercise and in pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in it by The Municipal Corporations Act 1933 and of all other Acts--powers and authorities enabling it in that behalf. The short title of this Bylaw is "The Wellington City Consolidated Bylaw Amendment No. 17 (Licensed Passenger Vehicles) 1938." The object and purport of the bylaw are: — , I. To fix the maximum and minimum fares payable in respect of, the hire of a licensed passenger vehicle (other than a passenger service vehicle as defined by the Transport Licensing Act, 1931) as follows: — (i) (a) For a* distance not exceeding one half mile for one or two passengers: Is. (b) For every additional half mile: 6d. (c) For every additional passenger over two for the whole or part of the journey an extra charge of: 6d. (ii) A child under five years shall not be counted a passenger provided that such child is accompanied by an • adult. . ;■ (iii) Making a charge of 6d for luggage ou the carrier and fixing the charges in respect of waiting time and the commencement and termination thereof. (iv) Providing for the charges for hiring beyond ten miles from the General Post Office: regulating the charges when the vehicle is called but not employed and where the vehicle has been engaged to meet a train, boat, or person attending a place of entertainment. (v) Providing for tolls and wharf charges to be added to the fares payable- , ' 11. Making it an offence to demand or accept a greater or less fare than that shown on the taximeter at the termination* of the hiring increased by all lawful extra charges. 111. Requiring a card to be displayed in a conspicuous place in every licensed passenger vehicle showing the scale of charges. IV. -Requiring licensed passenger vehicles to r«s: equipped with a properly «xljusted taximeter. V. Repealing Clauses 74, 75, and 76 of Part II of the Wellington City Consolidated Bylaw No. 1 1933 and Subclause 4 of Clause 4 of the Wellington City Consolidated Bylaw Amendment Number 6 (Licensed Passenger Vehicles Amendment 1934).
