Marlene continues to Jse the best mare in her class, and her performance round a field to win the Wainui Handicap at Hutt Park on Saturday was her best to date, not from a time point of view, but from the difficulties she surmounted. Probably the best Jack Potts mare raced to date, Marlene is out of Auditress, a speedy but unreliable mare by Author Dillon, 4min 21 4-ssec, champion pacer and public idol of his time, from Millie C. (by WMdmoor), the dam of Acron, winner of the Free-for-All twice, and iwhose mile race record of 2min 3 3-ssec from a moving-up start still stands.
