PROBATION GRANTED
Thomas Joseph Levett, who appeared before Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the 'Magistrate's Court today, charged with obtaining credit by fraud, was admitted to six months' probation.
Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle, prosecuting, described how the accused had engaged a taxi for himself and a friend and had driven to Eastbourne. He had represented to the driver that he had no money, but was employed in an> insurance company, and the driver would be paid if he called there the following morning. ' When the driver called, he found that the accused was not employed by the company. "I have no doubt that drink is primarily the cause of this trouble," said Detec-tive-Sergeant Doyle.
On his own behalf the accused said he could not recall telling the taxidriver that he was employed by the insurance company. He told him he would meet him at the entrance, but when the- accused turned Up the taxidriver was not there.
destitution of the amount involved, £3, is to be made.
