ROBBERY ALLEGED
TWO MEN FOR TRIAL
EVIDENCE OF ASSAULT

PALMERSTON N., This Day.
Two young men, Allan John Williams and Bernard Andrew Mcßrearty, both butchers, were committed for trial on a charge of robbing Charles Cecil Mudgway, a labourer, of Ohura, of £2 15s and a watch and chain, valued at 30s, and also immediately prior to the robbery of using personal violence on Mudgway.
Giving evidence, Mudgway said that he met both the accused at Levin, where all had several drinks. The accused obliged him with a ride in their car to Palmerston North, but when at Himitangi the engine stopped. While Williams attended to the engine Mcßrearty accused the witness of calling him names and delivered a blow to the face which knocked the witness down. Mcßrearty dragged him up and again felled him with a blow en the chest. All got in the car again, the witness not remembering much about the rest of the journey to Palmerston North. When they arrived at Milson suburb all got out, and he was pushed over with a blow on the chest. As he lay on the ground he was kicked on the face, his false teeth being broken. The accused rolled him over and went through his pockets. They then drove away, but witness was able to get the car number.
Detective Power said that in a pocket in a pair of trousers belonging to Williams he found three blood-stained pound notes and in an overcoat pocket a blood-stained postal note. In a pocket of trousers belonging to Mcßrearty he found Mudgway's . watch and chain, Mcßrearty explaining he did not know it was there.
