WOMEN'S MUSEUM

FOUNDED IN NEW YORK

A novel museum—the World Centre of Women's Archives—has been formally presented with its first] exhibit, the records, charts, and maps.'used by Amelia Earhart, the woman flyer, on her last flight, states the "Sydney Morning Herald." The World Centre is housed in a New York hotel, and here iwill be exhibited historical documents and objects in connection with women's contributions to culture and history.

Dr. Edward C. Elliott, president of Purdue University, presented Miss Earhart's documents, sent to America at various stages of her last flight, at a dinner attended by many prominent women, including Miss Jacqueline Cochran, the flyer, aad Miss Fannie Hurst, the authoress. Manuscripts of Miss Earhart's writings recently published under the title "Last Flight" were part of the collection.

The founder of the centre, Mrs. Beard, wife of the historian; Charles Beard, said afterwards: "If such provision had been made in , ancient Greece, the entire complexion of written history would have been changed."

The sponsors of this new museum, who include Mrs. Franklin Roosevelt, Miss Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labour, and Mrs. Vincent Astor, believe that history today tells only half the story—"man's record"—and that with the "recent political re-submergence of women" and "reactionary trend in many European countries, there is danger that much of this valuable material regarding women may soon be lost or destroyed." ___
