SMALLER "BOBBIES"
» Because there has been almost as much difficulty in filling vacancies in the London, police force as in the British Army, future "Bobbies" will je permitted to be an inch shorter *han the present towering policemen. Vhe Commissioner of Police has authorised the acceptance of recruits of a height of 5 feet 8 inches instead of the previous minimum of 5 feet 9 inches, provided they are unmarried, not more than twenty-five years old, and "particularly well developed physically" with "sound educational qualifications.-' It was explained that "under modern conditions there are many police duties for the efficient performance of which physique and intelligence are more important than stature."
