IMPORTED SIRE'S DEATH
Bonspiel, who arrived from England only in December to take up stud duties in Queensland, where he .was to replace' Bonnement at the Canning Downs Stud, died a fortnight ago from Pn_Se. 'was bred in 193E.by Lord Rosebery, and was a beautifully bred horse by Solario (son of Gainsborough) from Bongrace, by Spion Kop (son ol Spearmint) from Vaucluse, by Dark, Ronald (son of Bay Ronald) from Valve, by Velasquez from Gas (dam of Cicero), by Ayrshire (son of Hampton) from Illuminata (dam of Ladas and Chelandry), by Rosicrucian. He was a good performer in England, and one of his best performances was a second in the . Gr.atwicke Stakes at Goodwood to Precipitation, who won the Ascot Gold Cup. Last season he won the March" Stakes at Newmarket, in which he defeated Boswell, who the previous . season had -won the Leger and after being defeated by Bonspiel went on to win the Eclipse Stakes.
