ADEQUATE FORCE
PROTECTION OF COASTLINES
WASHINGTON, February 11.
Senator Vinson announced that the 800,000,000-dollars Naval Construction 3ill will include' a section exactly
stating the fundamental naval policy of the United States, namely, the maintenance of an adequate navy to protect both coastlines simultaneously and also the Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, and other insular possessions, to protect commerce and citizens abroad, and to guarantee national security, but 'not for aggression.
The navy will also ensure the United States's national integrity and support its national policies. The navy must be adequate to keep any potential enemy from the shores of the United States, and finally, the United States looks with apprehension and disfaVour on general increases in world naval building and, in the event of international agreement for limitations, the President would be empowered to suspend construction except where ships have already been begun. .
