FOREIGN POLICY

AMERICAN SENATE

RESUMPTION OF DEBATE

WASHINGTON, February 10.

Upon the resumption of the foreign policy debate, Senator H. W. Johnson called President Roosevelt's Chicago address irresponsible, and said he would demand further information regarding the foraign policy of the United States.

"I am for a big navy, but I do not favour alliances or any understanding .because it means war, and we will reap the same consequences as in 1918," he declared. . Senator Lewis decried -the danger cf an impression being spread abroad that the United States is divided on foreign policy. "These gentlemen who are crying out," he asked, "who are they? Most of ..them are the very gentlemen who paraded the streets denouncing President Wilson because he did not hasten this country into war. I denounce them."
