CONGESTION AT HUTT PARK

"Savoy Street" criticises the method of control of traffic at the Hutt Park on the occasion of the Wellington Trotting Club's Summer Meeting. There was, he considers, a lack of knowledge of the first principle of control, to keep traffic moving safely; signals were not clearly given, and officials who might have been expected to take part in the work made no attempt to assist. The consequence was that a great deal of cutting in was attempted, and the congestion became so serious that cars were as long as 30 minutes in covering the half-mile between the car paddock and the pipe bridge. After the Springboks Test match, he mentions, 20 miles of cars and 150 tram cars were moved from the park within an hour and a half without accidents or frayed tempers simply by the application of recognised principles of control. It is to be hoped, he concludes, that a meeting of all those concerned will be called by the club before the next meeting is held at Hutt Park so that correct traffic arrangements may bo made.
