"WELCOME BALL"
TRAINING COLLEGE i STUDENTS
The students executive of the Wellington Teachers' Training College organised a most successful "Welcome Ball" for new students, at the college, in Kowhai Road. Kelburn, last night. Streamers in green, red. orange, and black colourings decorated the interior and radiated fro.'n a coloured hoop in the middle of the ceiling. Pendant balloons in all sizes, shapes, and colours were there in profusion, and were released towards the end of the evening to float in small clusters among the dancers. The stage, from which the orchestra played, was hung with graceful midnight blue curtains.
The supper-room was gay with vases of flowers in tones of yellow, and blue streamers on the long tables completed the colours of the Training College.
Mr. Dyer, chairman of the Education Board, made a brief speech of welcome to the new students.
Student dances are always characterised by their easy, informal atmosphere, and last night, when the newcomers
were introduced to older students under the brilliancy of many lights ancl with a background of gaiety and music, tradition was maintained. "Excuseme's" and "Paul Jones's" were danced with enthusiasm throughout the evening, and as partners were changed in quick succession, a splendid introduction was given the students in their new life.
