ANNUAL PICNIC
DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR The annual picnic of the Department of Labour was held at Day's Bay oh Friday, when a sports programme was completed. Many close finishes caused intense interest among the spectators, while the novelty races were most amusing. Towards the close of the day Mr. H. E. Moston, Assistant Secretary of Labour (in the absence of Mr. J. S. Hunter, Secretary of Labour), made a short speech, commenting on the enjoyable outing which everyone appeared to have had. Mrs. Moston then presented the prizes to the successful competitors. Results of the sports are as follows:—Men's 100 yds Handicap: H. Parsonage 1, S. Jenkins 2. Women's 75yds Handicap (staff): Miss Emmett 1, Miss Randall 2, Miss Orsborne 3. Sections relay race (challenge, cup): Employment Bureau (J. Guinivin, A. Marshall, G. Stephenson, I. Tourell), 1; District Office, 2;, Allocations No. 2, 3. Married men's race, 75yds (staff): A. E. Selman 1, R. Crawford 2. Married women's race, 50yds: Mrs. A. Bockett 1,-Mrs. A. Hodges 2. Men's race, 40 years and over: A. Dalley 1, A. J. Ridler 2. Pick-a-barrow race: Miss Randall and J. S. Bentley 1. • Blind horse race: Miss Randall and M. O'Reilley 1. Jumble boot race: H.Stewart 1. Three- i legged race: Miss I. Foley and T. W. j Ross 1. Elopement race: Miss Tomlinson and Pierce Carroll 1. Girls' race: Z. Dalley 1, Beverly Nicholson 2. Boys' race: Basil Barker 1. Bob Marshall 2. Women's invitation swimming; race, 50yds: Miss I. Chipper 1, Miss P. Gartey 2. Men's invitation swimming race, 50yds: G. Knowles 1, M. O'Connor 2.
