GRAND JURY'S ADVICE
INDECENT ASSAULT CASES (By Telegraph—Press Association.), AUCKLAND, February 2. "We note with regret the number of indecent assault cases, and we think such offences'? might be met by more severe punishment," was the text of a resolution communicated to Mr. Justice Fair by the Grand Jury at the Supreme Court today. His Honour said the Grand Jury's representation wbuld bs given consideration, both by himself and by-Mr. Justice Callan. The subject was one'that was very difficult to deal with1 at timts.. Such offenders seemed' to require some sort of treatmerit which medical science had found difficult to determine1. He said the . Courts had always kept in mind the ' necessity for imposing a punishment Which would deter others. They had taken into account the effect which punishment had on other persons who were tempted '<■ by the same impulse. His Honour thanked the jury on behalf of the country for the time and consideration iMiadgiyento^the cases.
