MONKS OF ST. BERNARD

MARVELLOUS INSTINCT

(Received February 3, 2.40 p.m.) / LONDON, February 2.

How the famous dogs of the Saint Bernard Hospice' saved the lives of monks in a hurricane was told by Father Depgi over the trans-continen-tal telephone from the hospice to the "Daily Telegraph." He said that some of the monks wanted to go out into the snow. "We tried to get the dogs to move, but they wouldn't. There then occurred two tremendous avalanches.- \lf the monks had gone out they certainly would have been overwhelmed. Their livps were saved by the marvellous instinct of the dogs." ■.■..■'■■ Many of the windows of the hospice were broken, doors smashed, and rooms filled with snow.
