On the arrival of the Matua today, Cap"tain Prosser said that a memorial service was held aboard the Matua late on the afternoon of January 14, over the spot where the crew of, the Samoan Clipper perished. The service was arranged through the agency of Union- Airways and, as already described in New Zealand papers, was most impressive.; ; ; Wreaths were lowered by Mr. S.- G; Smith, Resident Commissioner of the Cook islands, for the New Zealand Government; Mrs. A. d'Turnbull,' wife of: the Acting Administrator of .Western Samoa, for the Samoan Administration; Miss Tepuretu, for the people of Rarotonga; Mr. Page, a clergyman, for the Tongan Government; Captain Prosser, for Union Airways; Mr. L. J. Warren, for the Union Steam Ship Company; the first officer of the Matua, Mr. Fisher, for the Auckland Harbour Board; the chief engineer, Mr. Knewstubb, for the master, officers, and crew of the Matua; and the chief steward, Mr. Brown, for Mrs. Smythe, of Apia. ______________ . .
