SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS.

During Saturday a moderate westerly depression crossing the South Island was responsible for moderuto to strong northerly to westerly winds," but except in the western and southern portions of the Suuth Island, whero some scattered rains occurred, the weather was fair and warm generally. By Sunday morning, however, a deep cyclonic depression had advanced towards the Dominion and has since been centred west of tho Cook Strait area. Consequently southerly or south-easterly winds have since prevailed about and south of Coolt Strait and havo blown with gale forco in the latter area, and also on parts of tho west coast of the South Island. Unsettled, dull, and misty conditions and fairly general rains have also been experienced, heavy falls occurring In the North Island and on tho east coast of the South. The southerly has been accompanied by a decided drop in temperatures.
