RIFLE SHOOTING
PETONE CLUB
The Petone Rifle Club fired a competition over ranges of 300> 500,' 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yards at Trentham on Saturday, the results counting for the Hunter and Stepbenson Cups. The 300, 500, and 600 yards ranges were fired in the morning, and the 800, 900, and 1000 in the afternoon—two sighte'rs and seven shots to count at each range. The weather '.was boisterous, and difl> cult conditions were experienced in the latter part of the morning and on the long ranges in the afternoon. W. H. Nickless shot consistently over all ranges to win the Hunter Cup with 97 for the short ranges, and 92 for the long ranges,' a total of 189 off the rifle for the day. Possibles were made by Nickless and Cameron at 300 yard 3 range. Over the short ranges,' Cameron made 101, Stewart 99, Ballinger 98, 5010m0.., and Nickless 97. E. F. Gilder won a cup donated by Mr. Stephenson, of Taita, for the junior shots. Next Saturday the third series, etc., will be continued at the 600 syards range. Saturday's scores were:— Wl H.
