TOLL OF JAPANESE BY GUERRILLA TROOPS

(Received January 22, 11-25 a.m.) LONDON, January 21. The correspondent of the British United Press at Shanghai says that China's millions are being hastily mobilised and trained for mass resistance. The University of Canton is being closed to enable the students to engage in a "missionary campaign on behalf of the uniformed militia. In addition, 200,000 civilians are being trained in guerrilla tactics. Nearly a million are reported to have enlisted in the Self-defence Corps at Shensi, while the Province of Hunan is establishing a commission to direct mass training. • ■■ Guerrilla fighters continue to take toll of the Japanese near Taiyuan, capital of Shansi; and also at Chuen sha, east of Shanghai
The Domei news agency reports at Shanghai that the Japanese proceeding north of the Tientsin-Pukow railway captured Linhwaikwan, eight miles south-east of Pengpu.

It is officially announced from Hankow that nine executions of officials were carried out for failure to perform their duties. Their names are not given, but the ranks are to army corps commander, a brigadier, a courtmartial judge» a chief telegraph, officer, two regimental commanders, and three battalion commanders.
The Dome! (Japanese) news agency states that General Han Fu-chu was executed at Hankow.
It is stated that General Han Fu-chu was charged with, disobedience of orders, unauthorised retreat, forcible sale of opium to residents of Shangtung, forcible exaction of taxes, and seizure of public funds. A.message from Shanghai states that Yang Fohyuen, a member of the Shanghai Civic Association, was assassinated, as he was entering his home in the French Concession. ,'■'
