Mrs. J. P. Firth, who has spent several weeks in Nelson, has returned to Wellington.

Mr: and Mrs. J. O'Shea, Oriental Parade, after a visit to their daughter, Mrs. Pat Holden, Gisborne, went on to Auckland, returning later to Gisborne and from there making a motor tour in the Hot Lake district. They have now returned to Wellington.

Lady Gullett (Melbourne), wife of Sir Henry Gullet, a former member of the Commonwealth Government, whoj is visiting the Dominion, arrived in Wellington by the Limited express yesterday en route to Christchurch. She is staying at the Hotel St. George.

Dr. and Mrs. Beaglehole were among those who left yesterday by the Wanganella for the Sydney celebrations.

' ;'..■•'' The death has ■ occurred of Mrs. Grace Ann Bertram,. of Cross Street, Willenhall, aged 74, states "The Post's" London representative writing on January 1. During the war Mrs. Bertram, who at that time was headmistress of the Station Road Infants' School, Hednesford, took a keen interest in the welfare of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who were sent to the Cannock Chase Military Camp. She made many friendships ' among them, and with some of them she\ corresponded until the time of her death.

The engagement is announced of Hugh McNab, son of Major Charles Salisbury and Mrs. Davenport, 9 Lexham Gardens, and i Cecily, youngest daughter of the late Mr. Wilfred Cotton Sproule and of Mrs. Sproule, of Napier, states the London representative of "The Post."

Mrs. C. F. Hickmott, accompanied by Miss Rosaleen Hickmott, has been spending a few weeks' holiday in Dunedin with her daughter, Mrs. R. W. Lauder, .and will return to Wellington next week. ,
