BOWLING TOURNEY

THIS MORNING'S PLAY

ißy Telegraph —Invest Association.) . DUNEDIN, This Day. Post-section play in the rinks championship at the New Zealand bowling tourney was continued in perfect weather this 'morning. All the players were at; the one green. Results:— '■• "two-life division. Wilson (Linwood), a bye. Britten (Sydenham) 23, Foster (Caversham) 10. Aitcliison (Caledonian) 19, Thomson (Phoenix) 8. ONE-LIFE DIVISION. ...' Dr. Marks (Christchurcti) 21, Veitch (West Harbour) 17. . Bull (Hawera) 22, Webster (Kaituna) 11. . ■■■'.'. Dowland (St. Kilda) 25, Ferguson (Balmacewen) 21. Thomson. (Balmacewen) 18, Carswell (Taieri) 16. . Piper (Maitai) 18, Tyrrell (Roslyn) 14. " • In the Britten-Foster game the former proved much too strong, and the Caversham man abandoned play after the eighteenth head. He did not receive much support from his team. Aitchison's i-ink turned on the best form in the tournament, and will be hard to beat in the finals. It.was obvious that his opponents from Oamaru found the green too fast, but they fought a losing battle well. The veteran Carswell put up a great fight against Thomson, and after being well down in the early stages led at the twelfth head, after which Thomson regained the advantage and won after a close finish. Both skips and leads gave good exhibitions of bowling. The Bulls combination proved too solid for Webster. A feature of the Dowland-Ferguson game was the sound exhibition of leading on both sides and the splendid recovery on the part of Dowland, who, after being down 10-1 on the sixth head, piled on points to score a meritorious win, 25-21. Veitch, who with Britten was the only unbeaten rink in the section play, went down to Marks after an interesting game, leading up to the sixteenth head, when he lost touch and the Christchurch man gained the lead and kept it to the finish.
