The saH aging' of this timber before it is affect} 3d by borer and other pests is giving f)he Commissioner of State Forests (thVa Hon. F. Langstone) great concern. Vo obtain first-hand knowledge, he ii ispected the affected areas on Saturday . and expressed the opinion that with a full measure of co-opera-tion betweeJi the State Forest Service and millers fthe salvage problem should be solved. Mr. Langsti >ne, as Minister of Lands, also paid a "t visit to the Government farm settlem* art areas at Poro-o-taro. Following the falling of bush it was found that the property was subject to stock sickness; and steps were taken to combat the ts ouble. Mr. Langstone found the meth ods adopted highly satisfactory. ■, Whereas a ftiiv. years ago stock could not be bred oni. the property with any degree of success, it was carrying in November last J 2714 ewes, 4453 lambs and hoggets, and. 783 head of run cattle, besides other sta tion stock.
