HARMFUL STORY

CORRECTED BY BRITISH

AMBASSADOR

TOKIO, January 15.

The British Ambassador, Sir Robert Craigie, has disposed of a story that the noted author Mr. Makoto Watanabe called at the Embassy and dramatically handed over a dagger, saying, "Here's my message to Mr. Eden."

Sir Robert Craigie explains that Mr. Watanabe presented an^antique Japanese sword, a family heirloom, in token of friendship and admiration for Britain. He expressed the hope that the Anglo-Japanese Treaty would be revived. The Domei news agency says the fact that Mr. Watanabe was later questioned by the police gave rise to the story with harmful intent."
