RAIL EXCURSION

About 150 residents of Wellington took advantage of special fares offered by the Railway Department at the weekend to make a one-day excursion to Waitomo and visit the caves.

The train left Wellington at 10.20 o'clock on Saturday night and arrived at Hangatiki at 10.33 a.m. yesterday. From Hangatiki the excursionists motored to the Waitomo Hostel, a distance of about seven miles. . After visiting the caves'they left again on the return journey at 7.30 p.m. The train arrived at Wellington early this morning. The ordinary train from Napier connected with the excursion at Palmerston North.
