THEATRE GUTTED BY FIRF

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

WAIHI, This Day.

The Academy Picture Theatre, situated opposite the Post Office, was completely gutted by fire on Saturday night. The outbreak occurred half an hour after the picture show finished. Fortunately there was no wind and the flames shot straight up into the air. The Golden Cross Hotel, which is separated from the theatre by a brick wall, was not damaged. The hotel garages, store house, and other outbuildings adjacent to the theatre, however, were completely destroyed. The insurances on the plant and building are not yet available.
