Trench Fight has been on the easy list since his return from Auckland, and will not make the trip to Trentham next week.
It is interesting to note that the Stewards' Handicap winner Alma is engaged over miles only on the two first days at Trentham next week, but may return to sprinting on the final day.
Boomerang, who is at present being freshened .up-at Trentham with easy work, is to race on the second day of next week's meeting, and it is improbable that he will accompany his team mates to Ashhurst.
Deficit, who failed to make any respectable showing during the holidays, got down in the float on returning from Manawatu, and he has now been sent out for a lengthy spell.
W, Doyle will do most of the riding of T. R. George's team at Ashhurst, his probable mounts including Gal teemore, Free Gold, and Alunga. Alunga's trip depends on his earlier showings at the Wellington Meeting.
According to a Takanini report, Valamito and Round Up look particularly well after their racing at Ellerslie, Both are booked to race at Trentham, and they should perform well on the trip.
The best gallop of the morning at Ellerslie on Saturday was that of Kelly, who ran six furlongs in lmin 16 4-ssec, after taking 38sec for the first three furlongs. He came through his racing at Auckland in good style, and is expected to take his place in the Wellington Cup field.
Surmount is said to have brightened up during the past week, and present intentions are to allow him to take his place in the Wellington Stakes field, in which he will be ridden by W. J. Broughton.
After the final day's racing at Ellei-slle W. J. Broughton was involved in an accident in which he crashed into a post on the outskirts of Auckland and extensively damaged his car but escaped serious injury himself. He was driving alone at the tune, after having taken friends to their homes, and fatigue is understood to have been the cause of the misadventure.
According to a Riccarton report Mr. W. Hosking's aged gelding Mungatoon, a son of Musketoon, has joined F- ARoberts's stable. Mungatoon is a useful stayer who is partial to easy tracks.
Private advice has been received in Auckland to the effect that the Dominion-bred gelding Kahapa, by General Latour from March, was third in the Viceroy's Cup at Calcutta last month.
It is reported from Dunedin that Fog Peak was still in a bad way at the' weekend as a result of the injuries he received on the concluding day of the Southland Club's Meeting. The trouble is in the shoulder and was caused by a kick he received at the barrier. * King George may have a runner in one of the 1939 classic races. He has nominated Airway for the Derby, Two Thousand Guineas, and St. Leger; Osman Pasha for the Derby; Cosmopolitan for the Two Thousand Guineas; Makina for the St. Leger, Oaks, and One Thousand Guineas; and Wavelength and Judy for the Oaks and One Thousand Guineas.
