INDUSTRIES FAIR
BIRMINGHAM AND LONDON
Between 10,000 and 11,000 men will be employed in building the 1938 British Industries Fair, to be held from February 21 to March 4 in the world's: three largest ..exhibition halls—Castle! Bromwich, Birmingham, and Olympia and Earls Court, London. --
Although it is unlikely that the number of exhibitors at the Fair will exceed the 1933 total of 2724, the largest to date, the extent of space to be occupied by them will be greater, as 955,000 square feet has already been applied for. The 1933 area was 839,011 square feet. The display, which stands in the three buildings, would, if placed in line, extend for 26 miles.
The staffs engaged in showing the exhibitors' goods will total 8000, of whom 1700 are members of the various exhibitors' clubs. The goods represent 76 trades. Besides the exhibitors' clubs there will be buyers' clubs, where visitors from overseas can meet and entertain their friends, chat over problems of business, or bring their order books up to date.
At peak times more than 70 policemen and 100 uniformed attendants wijl be on duty; more than 50 firemen will be constantly patrolling, the: premises, including a cycle squad at night at Castle Bromwich. There willbe a corps of 32 interpreters to assist buyers from foreign parts. ,
