OBITUARY
MR. ARTHUR NEWBOLD
Mr. Arthur Newbold, who died at Wellington Hospital yesterday at the age of 74 years, was a well-known cricketer in Wellington towards the close of the last century. He played for the Wellington Club when it car-: ried off the senior championship three times between 1894 and 1897. That team was captained by the late Hon. W. E. Collins, and included, besides Arthur Newbold, such able players as Ronaldscln, Izard, Werry, E. Boddinglon, Kreeft, B. Wilson, Fleming, and the three Gore brothers. Mr. Newbold was a free batsman and a round-arm bowler of ability. He later played with the Rivals Cricket Club for some seasons.
Mr. Newbold was also a prominent Rugby footballer in his day, and played for some years for the Wellington snd Rivals Clubs. He was also a good shot, and an enthusiastic sportsman. He was a member of the Wellington Commercial Travellers' Club for many years.
For upward of 40 years he held the position of accountant to Briscoe and Co., Ltd.
He leaves a family of five sons and three daughters. His wife predeceased him two years ago.
