BUT RATHER CHANGEABLE
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds, rising at times to gale force. Weather for the most part fair, but rather changeable, and occasional showers probable. Temperatures moderate.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for winds between north-west and west predominating, but winds in some localities will turn at tvmes to the south-west. North of New Plymouth and Napier winds will be mainly light to moderate in force. Elsewhere they will be moderate to strong, with gales in some exposed positions. In eastern and northern districts the weather will be mainly fair to fine, but elsewhere it will be changeable with occasional showers. Temperatures will be
moderate.
Another depression passed eastward last night. Although others are following it across the southern Tasman Sea, these appear to be less intense than their predecessor. Both yesterday and last night squally and changeable conditions prevailed, and rain fell in most districts, but falls were only light and scattered in districts with an easterly aspect. By this morning, except in the western and far southern districts of the South Island, a fairly general improvement had taken place. Winds have been mainly north-west to south-west in direction, and this morning they were still strong in parts of Cook and Foveaux Straits, although otherwise they had decreased in force.
Auckland's weather yesterday was warm and cloudy, with occasional showers, the wind being a moderate to strong one from between the north and west Nine points of rain were recorded, and the maximum and minimum temperatures were 79.3 and 64.1 degrees respectively. It was cloudy there this morning, with a light wind from the south-south-west.
Wellington had a very boisterous morning, with frequent heavy showers and a strong north-westerly wind. Conditions, however, moderated during the afternoon and the sun came out at intervals, 2.9 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The rainfall at Kelburn totalled 39 points. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees and the minimum 08.1 degrees. This morning broke line and bright with a moderate north-westerly wind.
In Christchurch the morning was overcast, with a south-westerly breew in the early part. The wind changeJ to the north-east, however, and the aflernoon was fine and sunny. Tha maximum and minimum temperatures were 73.4 and 58.3 degrees respectively. The weather this morning was fair with a light easterly wind.
In Dunedin it was changeable ana overcast most of the morning, but the weather cleared about noon. About 3 p.m. there was a brief thunderstorm with some rain. A northerly breeze has prevailed there, and the weather this morning was fine and clear.
